The town of Brežice and its surroundings proudly boast a rich natural and cultural heritage. The wealth of thermal waters was made good use of in TERME ČATEŽ, the centre of thermal tourism. The preserved castles are a testament to the significance of the area where they were built.
In the town of Brežice stands the majestic BREŽICE CASTLE, nowadays home to the Posavje Museum; GOLF GRAD MOKRICE HOTEL, surrounded by a magnificent English park on a hillock, tells a tale about the Countess Barbara’s unhappy love; PIŠECE CASTLE tells a story of the Moscon family and the knights of Pišece; while BIZELJSKO CASTLE towers above the vineyards of the Bizeljsko region, inviting the passers-by to come over. The town’s distinctive features are the AQUEDUCT TOWER and the OLD BRIDGE OVER THE RIVERS SAVA AND KRKA built in 1906.
JOVSI, with its unspoiled condition, and Kozjansko Regional Park, with its unique characteristics, rank as two of the very special places. In Bizeljsko, the hospitable locals will gladly open the sunny gates of “REPNICE”; in a gravel pit in Bizeljsko, you will find EUROPEAN BEE-EATERS’ NESTS; while the ETHNOGRAPHIC COLLECTION and the BLACKSMITH'S MUSEUM will take you several centuries back in time. In Pišece, you can visit the homestead and see the MEMORIAL COLLECTION of MAKS PLETERŠNIK.
