You will be drawn to Brežice by a gently rolling countryside with unspoiled corners, offering numerous possibilities of spending your spare time. Through the centuries, the River Sava had dictated the development of an urban settlement just by the left bank (Slo. “breg”) of its riverbed, thus giving the place its name: breg - brežci - Brežice. The town fortified with walls had grown by an imposing castle, by which craft and trade developed during the Middle Ages.

Today, the castle is home to the Posavje Museum holding rich collections of the cultural heritage of Posavje. The castle’s centre of activities is the beautiful Knights' Hall intended for cultural and protocol events at the highest level. In the summer, when hosting concerts in the scope of the Brežice Festival, a festival whose high-quality programme is a great enrichment of the cultural image of Slovenia as a whole, the hall is a meeting place of the best performers of medieval music worldwide.
